As we’ve previously announced, our congregation is invited to a gathering on August 10, 2024, to discuss policies around issues raised by changes to the United Methodist Discipline made by the 2024 meeting of the United Methodist General Conference. To be precise, it is now up to each local church whether to permit wedding services foe same-sex couples in their church building, and whether or not they are comfortable with the appointment of a lgbtq+ person as their pastor.
This Saturday morning meeting will be the first of at least two such meetings designed around listening and dialogue. We will not vote on any policy at this meeting. Instead we are seeking input from the congregation around these issues, and around the deeper values we want to be sure to take into account during our future conversations.
Our goal is for the church’s elected leadership to make these policy decisions over the next couple of months.
