Greetings, Church Family…

Big news in the community this week is that many of our children have gone back to the public school classrooms. We join you in prayer for their health and safety.

If you have cut through the church parking lot this week, you may have noticed a distinct dearth of automobiles. The Growing Place, our church’s preschool ministry, is temporarily closed due to a few cases of Covid among its staff. As of Monday, three staff members tested positive. However, most of the remaining staff had been exposed through the natural course of working together. Barb plans to keep the facility closed for 14 days to make sure the transmission cycle is broken. This is well beyond what is required by state regulations, but clearly a wise decision on her part.

We continue to meet in person for worship at 10:45 on Sunday mornings and 6:00 on Sunday evenings. We believe that our worship spaces are sufficiently isolated from the Growing Place spaces to make this safe.

Many of us continue to participate in worship through online avenues. This week is World Communion Sunday, so we invite those of you viewing from home to prepare by having some grape juice and bread handy on Sunday Morning. For those of you attending in person, we have carefully thought through how to keep communion safe and meaningful.

And now for some words from your staff:

From Jamie J:

We currently have seven Life Groups gathering weekly to share their walk with Christ with one another. These are much-needed in a time when we’re separated from one another. Of the seven groups, five meet at various times on Wednesday evenings. Two groups meet on Thursday evenings. Some are in-person and some meet by Zoom. All of them have a virtual “empty chair” set out for new people to join! We’re encouraging all adults to join a group. Click here to find out how:

From Jamelle:

Greetings Church Family,

I have two big announcements for you all. The first announcement is that we will start our hybrid version of the youth group. Students will have the opportunity (if you choose too) to come in person in the MMC, and others that feel uncomfortable or at high risk can still meet via the zoom link that has been provided for a few weeks now. I sent out an email describing our plan for this hybrid version. Please go back and read the last email. If you are not on the email list that Jamelle has, please contact him by calling the church office or email Jamelle at

This year, we will not be going to Aldersgate Camp, but we have a hybrid version of the fall retreat coming! Mark your calendars for November 6th – 8th. The times for the fall retreat are Friday from 7 pm to 9 pm, Saturday 11 am to 1 pm, and Sunday from 1 pm to 3 pm. We will have students meet virtually on the same youth group zoom link on Friday and Saturday, while Sunday is meeting in person at the MMC socially distanced for the last talk and communion. You may be wondering about sign-up sheets, themes, speakers, and how you can help. More details and information will come out soon to prepare us for November 6th – 8th. Stay tuned to our social media accounts and your email.

Overall, the youth group meets from 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm Every Wednesday. If you need the zoom link, have any questions, comments, or concerns, contact the church office and ask for Jamelle. If not, email me at .

And from Sequoia:

It’s not too late to join us for virtual family WNL. This year we are doing a lot of things differently and adapting. So, WNL is no different! Childrens’ Ministry in partnership with Adult Ministry will be hosting a family WNL zoom video-based gathering on Wednesday’s at 6:30pm for 30mintues to share, read scripture, and to be encouraged to live out the lesson with a weekly activity. We will be studying the book of Ephesians, guided by Phil Vischer, VeggieTales co-creator. Our theme for the fall semester is HOPE! We hope to see you there…see what I did there!!!

Please make sure you are in our remind group for all updates and information as it relates to children ministry. You can join by texting @uptownfumc to 81010.
