Greetings Church Family,
Let’s begin this week by acknowledging that school is back in session in Madison County. Though the classes are not meeting in person, we know that the rhythm of life for most families has seriously changed staring yesterday. Also, my wife is an educator (and I like to think that, in some sense, I am too) so I know that online teaching is VERY demanding for our teachers. We released a prayer for our students and teachers, but due to a glitch we were unable to publish a push notification on the church app. If you missed it, you can view it here.
All of us here at the church are trying to figure out how to rethink our discipleship strategies in a Covid world. You’ll be getting updates below from some of the church staff on what that looks like. Pay special attention to Jamie’s update on our Life Group offerings. This will be a separate post coming soon.
And now the announcement you’ve all been wondering about (provide your own drum roll here). We WILL be reopening the doors for in person worship beginning on Sunday, September 13. We’ll be observing all appropriate Covid precautions. Masks are mandatory, temperatures will be taken, social distance will be observed, etc. Our services will continue to be live streamed, as well, for those of you who are still not ready to be part of large, public gatherings.
At this time, we are still unable to provide child care or any in-person programming for our children. This will almost certainly be true for at least another month. The same applies to serving food or… and I know this hurts… coffee.
Some adult Sunday School classes are meeting in person, but many continue to meet online.
Please hear me and know I am sincere: It is absolutely appropriate for many of us to stay home and continue to participate in our church community through electronic means. we are working hard to make sure this online experience is as full and meaningful as possible. If you are at-risk or simply uncomfortable with being her in person please stay home and participate as fully as possible from there.
So here are updates from the rest of the staff:
Greetings Church Family,
I hope everyone is doing well during this transitional season, and I am praying for all of you as you are tending to all students going to school. Youth Group Online, for middle schoolers and high schoolers, is every Wednesday at 6:30 pm. I have sent out the zoom link to the parent and church member list that I currently have. If you have not received any link for the youth group, please contact the church office to speak to Jamelle or email . The youth worker team is discussing future events for the student ministry and will have those details as soon as possible. We will continue to meet via zoom until further notice. If you would like more information about our student ministry or what are doing, please flow us on our Emerge account on Instagram or our Facebook Page called, Emerge Youth. Thank you for your patience and your praying hearts.
Get ready for WNL virtual style. This year the whole church is doing a lot of things differently and adapting. So, WNL is no different! Children’s Ministry in partnership with Adult Ministry will be hosting a family WNL zoom video-based gathering starting 9/9 at 6:30pm for 30mintues to share, read scripture, and to be encouraged to live out the lesson with a weekly activity. We will be studying the book of Ephesians, guided by Phil Vischer, VeggieTales co-creator. Our theme for the fall semester is HOPE! We hope to see you there…see what I did there.
Please make sure you are in our remind group for all updates and information as it relates to children ministry. You can join by texting @uptownfumc to 81010
