Greetings Church Family!

We have a few jots and tittles this week, but BY FAR the biggest thing coming up is this Sunday’s Children’s Sabbath. Obviously the Children’s Sabbath will need to look a little different this year, but Sequoia and her team have been very busy putting together an online worship opportunity featuring the kids. This will stream live on Facebook Live at 10:45 on Sunday Morning, or you can watch it on the church’s Youtube channel any time during the week after about 1:00 pm on Sunday. As always, you should be able to access these through our church web page.

Also in worship news, We are going to try something a little different on September 6 and 13. We’re going to do a preaching service that spans both Morning and Evening services. It’s a four part series on Discipleship that will span four services in two weeks. With all of these services available on demand, of course, you can enjoy the series at your own pace if two church services a week sounds like altogether too much of a good thing.

One purpose of this series on discipleship is to help us launch our Fall discipleship program for adults, which Jamie gave us some details about last week. The focus for the Fall will be something we’re calling Life Groups. These groups are a little less about curriculum, and a little more about the significant personal contact that so many of us are craving during this time of Covid lock-down. Groups like these are a part of our rich heritage as Methodists.

Finally, some notes from some other church Leaders…

From Ann Brooks (our Methodist Home Representative)

OFFERING OF HOPE for 5th Sunday. On this day, August 30, we give hope to the children and young people of our Kentucky United Methodist Children’s Homes through the contributions we make beyond our regular offerings. Our Nicholasville Campus provides residential treatment for young people suffering from a variety of spiritual and psychological needs, independent living opportunities for those who are achieving degrees of self reliance, and community services for youth who are homeless. The mission of KyUMH depends on our financial and prayerful support. Please consider making a special contribution to Kentucky United Methodist Children’s Homes at 1115 Ashgrove Road, Nicholasville, KY 40356. For information on other ways to contribute to this mission, go to or call (859) 523-3001. 23-3001.

From Jamelle:

Hey Church Family,
Starting August 26th, until further notice, the youth group will be online, Wednesdays, at 6:30 pm. We will be meeting on a zoom link that was emailed to the parent list that I have. If you are not receiving these emails, please contact the church office and ask for Jamelle or email me at . The zoom link will be recurring. You can click the same link, every Wednesday, and your child will be able to get into our zoom youth group. As far as future events with the student ministry, I will continue to keep all of you updated. For now, with the uncertainty we live in, the youth ministry team is doing the best we can in trusting in the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as we all navigate the uncharted waters.

From Sequoia:

Join us online August 30th at 10:45am & 6:00pm for our virtual Children’s Sabbath Sunday Worship Service. A big thank you to all our children and parents for making this possible. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed seeing all the kids through videos and pictures!!

Get ready for WNL virtual style. This year we are doing a lot of things differently and adapting. So, WNL is no different! Childrens Ministry in partnership with Adult Ministry will be hosting a family WNL zoom video-based gathering starting 9/9 6:30pm for 30mintues to share, read scripture, and to be encouraged to live out the lesson with a weekly activity. We will be studying the book of Ephesians, guided by Phil Vischer, VeggieTales co-creator. Our theme for the fall semester is HOPE! We hope to see you there…see what I did there.

Please make sure you are in our remind group for all updates and information as it relates to children ministry. You can join by texting @uptownfumc to 81010
