1 Kings 19:1-15a  Elijah finds himself in one of the greatest of uncertain times, on the run for his life after the events on Mount Carmel. He finds hope in the gentle whisper of God, whose response to Elijah’s “I’m the only one left, and they’re trying to kill me” equates to “Yes, you’re still here, so go do the work I’ve called you to.” Parallel to this in the lectionary is Isaiah 65:1-9, which details the offenses of Israel against God yet promises there is still good yet to come — still “juice in the cluster of grapes” that contains a blessing (v.8).
